Susie Diaz of San Jose, California, who was a staff at SAP Center has sadly died. After Johnny Gaudreau passed away, Susie Diaz accomplished something incredible, but she tragically died before her dream could come true.
She did a lovely thing to respect the legacy of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau and mark their influence on many lives following their untimely deaths. She has since tragically died, but the hockey community is making sure she receives the recognition she is due. Her funeral plans and obituary will be announced by her family at a later time.
When Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were getting ready to go to their sister’s wedding in New Jersey in August, they were struck by a car and died. The Columbus Blue Jackets, Johnny Gaudreau’s team, honored him with a grand ceremony on opening night. The San Jose Sharks’ usher, Susie Diaz, wanted to let the Blue Jackets’ players and supporters know that the hockey community was grieving with them during tonight’s opening game of the 2024–25 regular season. When Columbus visited, she recommended that all arena employees wear “13” pins, and the team adopted her recommendation. However, Susie tragically died before she could see her vision come to fruition.
Although Susie Diaz’s cause of death is unknown, hockey fans are supporting her idea to memorialize Johnny Gaudreau, whose mother recently made a public statement following a difficult week in Columbus. It’s a straightforward gesture, but when it comes to leaving a legacy and honoring someone who has influenced countless lives, those are frequently the best.
